How to create a great resume

Translators, interpreters, and linguists in general often have to be seeking up for new #opportunities in the market. 

As a #TranslationAgency we receive a lot of #resumes, and we thought it would be a good idea to share with you some key points to take into account when preparing your #CV.

  • Must-haves:
  1. Personal Information: add your social media and try to keep your #LinkedIn profile updated!
  2. A brief summary of #qualifications. No more than five lines.
  3. Work experience: try to focus in five or six relevant experiences, you don’t need to tell everything that you have done in your life. It is fundamental to add what you consider to be more relevant for your #career and personal #growth.
  4. Education. In addition to your academic degrees (if you have them), you should also add #workshops, #training courses and practices.
  5. Skills. Some of the #BestSkills to share are #teamwork, #decision making, #leadership, #problem-solving, active #listening, #communication, critical #thinking and #customer service. 
  6. Languages. Well, of course.
  7. Certifications and awards, #projects you have developed, your participation in a non-profit #organization, etc.
  • Be bold! This means: Break the box! Be truly yourself, tell everything you believe distinguishes you and your personality. If you are committed with social causes, if you have hobbies, if you have written papers, articles, or even comics, share it! Even if you like drawing or singing. Let’s start making working spaces more real. We are all humans, and we all have different interests. Everything that we like doing can add a special value to our job position or be of interest to the person that decides whether we are in or out. 
  • Be creative in your design, even if you are looking for a position that has nothing to do with anything artistic. It is not so hard, you can use free templates from Freepik or Canva or pay a designer to do it for you, after all, it’s your first impression.
